Lantern-Making Workshops in November
Bootmakers Workshops 13th, 20th, 27th. November All from 12-4pm
Having been locked away from one another for months, our community needs to celebrate, and what better way to do this than with an event that can be built upon year after year, and which brings communities together around something really positive and strikingly visual. In the past, Bootmakers have enjoyed helping children make small lanterns for the parade, but have always felt that there is scope for a far bigger, more stylish event, that would draw people into the centre of town and even from far afield.
Bootmakers will be holding free workshops in the run-up to the parade, offering their creative space, designers and materials. They will also be running a friendly competition and having a prize-giving for the best lantern. Each team or family is welcome to come into the space to make the most of the expertise of their team (or they might prefer to take a willow frame and work on it in their own home).
The lanterns will be much larger than in previous years - strengthened tissue paper, covering a willow frame, in a variety of shapes - stars, shells, figures, angels. The lanterns would also be lit from inside with small, bright LED lamps. The lanterns can measure between a foot and several feet and all together should look like an arresting, illuminated river of people and lit artwork, making its way down the high street.
