March 2021 Newsletter

Dear residents,

This is an exciting year for Wincanton and the Town Council. 2021/22 is year 2 of the Wincanton for the Future Plan, Stakeholder Group and taking forward our commitment outlined in the Wincanton Environmental and Ecological Charter to further develop our vision of being a sustainable and environmentally friendly town.

The Wincanton for the Future Plan will build on the work commenced in 2020/21, with projects funded through the Good Stuff Fund. You will hear more about these in our year-end report and as they start to emerge, through our website and Facebook page. This year, we plan to restart our listening events with our residents with family focused events and pop up sessions led by Councillors. We continue to work proactively with the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses and groups to promote our unique range of independent businesses, our history and culture and our welcoming town.  Wincanton has been named in many local and national articles recently, including a fantastic article in the February edition of Somerset Life.

2021/22 is the beginning of a new era for our town with the regeneration of our high street, which will no doubt encourage visitors into the town (when national restrictions allow) to visit, stay over and enjoy what we as residents already experience.

This is an amazing time to join our Town Council for those that are keen to support our sustainable and environmentally friendly vision for Wincanton.

We are modernising our processes to improve productivity and efficiency, restructuring to offer one Full Council and one separate Planning Committee meeting a month. We are committed to support new councillors and provide training through the Somerset Association of Local Councils on all aspects of the work of the council and Councillors code of conduct.

Wincanton Town Council has six vacancies and those residents who are within the boundaries of the town or within 3 miles can apply. The By-Election is in May 2021. Further information will be available shortly. If you have any questions, please contact the Town Hall who can assist in answering your questions.

Sincerely,

Councillor Shelbourn-Barrow Chair of Wincanton Town Council
