Colonel Lucy Giles CBE Awarded The Freedom of Wincanton

Wincanton Town Council is proud to announce that Colonel Lucy Giles CBE has been presented with the Freedom of Wincanton in recognition of her outstanding service, leadership, and dedication within the British Army. 

The Freedom of the Town is one of the highest honours that can be bestowed by the Town Council and can be granted to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the community or achieved distinction that brings pride and recognition to the town.

Colonel Giles, who has had a distinguished career in the British Army, has demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment throughout her service. Her achievements have not only reflected great personal dedication but have also brought honour and inspiration to the people of Wincanton.  Colonel Giles was born in neighbouring Bayford and attended King Arthurs School.

The formal presentation ceremony took place at Wincanton Town Hall where guests and members of the community gathered to celebrate this significant occasion with other recipients of the Wincanton Community Awards.

Mayor of Wincanton, Cllr Howard Ellard said: “Colonel Lucy Giles’ accomplishments and commitment to service embody the very best of our community’s values. We are delighted to recognise her achievements by awarding her the Freedom of the Town.”

This honour highlights Wincanton Town Council’s commitment to celebrating individuals whose service and achievements inspire others and strengthen community pride.
