Wincanton Town Council is fortunate to have the General Power of Competence (GPC). Eligible Councils with the GPC are able to do anything subject to statutory prohibitions, restrictions and limitations.
Town and Parish Councils without the GPC are obliged to adhere to the following legal Powers and Duties. Powers are something that the Council may do, Duties are something that the Council has to do.
Below is a list of Town and Parish Council Powers and Duties along with a note of which Council, Wincanton Town Council, or Somerset Council, is responsible for the function within Wincanton. For some functions both Wincanton Town Council and Somerset Council have responsibility, for some functions neither have responsibility as the function isn’t currently provided within Wincanton
