Community Fridge

What is a Community Fridge?

The purpose of a Community Fridge it to help reduce food waste. The scheme is run by Wincanton Town Council and relies on volunteers to collect and deliver food and service and maintain the fridge, freezer and larder.

The Community Fridge is based at Wincanton Town Hall and is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Community Fridges are community led, open to all and focus on the environmental impact of reducing food.

Community Fridges are not food banks or a solution to food insecurity.

Community Fridge food is for sharing! Please only take what you need and what you will use.

TAKING FOOD FROM THE LARDER?

Make your own judgement whether the food is safe to eat by checking that foods are still within their use-by date.  Use your senses when it comes to bread and fresh fruit and veg

  • Wash all foods where necessary, before consumption
  • Do not consume unpasteurised milk, cooked rice, raw milk cheeses, pates, bean sprouts, cooked food from an uncertified kitchen, or any products which could contain any of the above ingredients.  Please let us know if any of these are found in the larder
  • Use your senses – smelling and looking at the food before eating it, if in doubt don’t eat it!  You take food from the larder at your own risk, please read the disclaimer.
