Wincanton Town Council is proud to announce that it has been awarded the BRONZE AWARD as part of the prestigious LOCAL COUNCIL AWARD SCHEME, administered by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC).
This recognition marks an important milestone for the Town Council, demonstrating its commitment to good governance, transparency, community engagement, and effective local leadership. The Bronze Award confirms that Wincanton Town Council meets a range of rigorous criteria, including operating lawfully, communicating effectively with residents, and maintaining strong financial management and ethical standards.
Mayor, Howard Ellard, said:
“We are delighted to receive the Bronze Award. This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff and councillors who strive to serve the Wincanton community to the highest standards. It also shows our commitment to continuous improvement and openness in everything we do.”
Town Clerk, Emma Curtis, added:
“This award recognises the considerable progress that has been made in a relatively short space of time. It is a testament to the determination of the council to improve standards and move forward positively for the benefit of our community. I am particularly proud of the dedicated team of staff behind the scenes whose professionalism and commitment have been instrumental in achieving this recognition. This has truly been a team effort, with councillors and officers working collaboratively. I am keen for the Council to build on this success and progress to achieving the Silver Award as soon as possible, continuing to raise standards and deliver the best possible service for our residents.”
The Local Council Award Scheme was created to celebrate the successes of the very best local councils and to provide a framework to support all councils in improving and developing their services. Achieving the Bronze level is the first step in a tiered system, with Silver and Gold awards recognising increasingly advanced levels of excellence.
Wincanton Town Council will continue to build on this success, working towards strengthening its services and deepening its engagement with the local community.
